1950 Ford Van Frame Repair

This 1950 Ford Van came into the shop because of a knocking sound when it would go over a bump.

Sometime during the 66yr life of this van, the front shock mounts were replaced, and shocks that were too long were put in. This caused the shock to bottom out, which caused the frame to crack.

Cracked sections were ground down and welded. But the large piece of missing frame was a challenge. That section could be cut out and a piece welded in place, but a better solution was decided on.

New piece of steel was cut out that would fit on other side of frame rail and welded into place. This not only replaces the missing section, but also reinforces the repaired area and mounting holes for shock mount.

New metal primered and shock mount bolted into place.

Correct length shock installed on both sides and the van is back on the road.
